  Know why SME owners need a brainstorming session?
 
  A brainstorming session should be used for generating lots of new ideas and solutions from current business situations and company’s vision/mission. A brainstorming session must be targeted to a specific topic, the problem area or the opportunity area. It is perfectly acceptable to propose a brainstorming session to investigate a whole area of interest which promoters, owners and directors want to explore. It is never meant for paid employees at whatsoever higher position in the company and/or as a proxy to company’s owners and promoters. If you follow what everyone else has done, you will follow the normal line of thinking and come up with the same or similar answers. You need to look out of the box and use your gut feelings to implement without getting biased with opinion from paid managers and alike. As owners of business, often you need a change in perception. Once have an initial probortunity statement you should decide whether a brainstorming session is appropriate. The time and costs spent brainstorming is an investment.
   
  A typical brainstorming session with SME owners, promoters, stakeholders etc., is between 4 to 6 hours or 6 to 8 hours depending on the areas of brainstorming. Ideally, it should be kept away from a regular business place, even company’s own conference room, and free from any routine calls and commitments.
